Overview

Harnessing the geothermal energy emitted from Volcano Nelson, just off the west shore of the Fragrance mainland, Thermadyne singlehandedly powers all of FAR. Nobody knows exactly how they are converting the heat into electricity so efficiently; Their only (known) energy source is the volcano, which isn’t even fully active these days.

Many investigative journalists have tried to get a peek behind the curtains of the Thermadyne offshore power site, but the island and surrounding waters are under a strict lockdown, enforced by Thermadyne’s private security forces. This paramilitary group consists not only of special operations veterans, but also world-class reconnaissance operatives, cybersecurity specialists, drone pilots, and fully automated AI defenses.

History

The history of Thermadyne is rather simple.

Once upon a time, there were many power distributors that served different regions of FAR. Thermadyne was one of them, specializing in farming heat from geothermal vents deep underwater. There is considerable geothermal activity in the FAR region, so vents like this were common enough to sustain business over the years.

This was before Volcano Nelson erupted from a couple feet under the ocean’s surface, creating its very own volcanic satellite island. While most people were running away from the eruption, Thermadyne saw it as a golden opportunity to test out a cutting edge energy harvester they built for abnormally large underwater vents. Only this time, they were going to put it over a volcano.

Their little science experiment must have been successful, because suddenly their energy plans dropped to nearly half the price of all the competition. Not only that, but power delivery from Thermadyne pipelines were more consistent and far-reaching than ever. Solar, wind, biomass, fossil fuels, hydro, nuclear, none of the other forms of energy farming could compete.

And so, thermadyne became the single energy provider in FAR.
